Hi, I'm Karin!

Artist, Teacher and lifelong maker of things.

Growing up in South Africa, a place where so much of life is shaped by what you can create with your hands, I developed a deep love of art and craft from an early age. Creativity there isn’t just a pastime — it’s a way of life. When I moved to Perth in 2010, I dreamed of opening a craft workshop straight away. The journey turned out to be longer and harder than I imagined, but it also gave me time to experiment, grow, and discover the many ways art can bring people together.

And here I am today! In 2017, I founded Fusion Cre8tive — my cosy Clarkson studio where creativity has room to flourish. From drawing and pastels to acrylics, oils, mosaics, murals, candle making, fabric painting, scrapbooking and more… I’ve tried it all, and I love passing those skills on.

Alongside running my studio, I’ve taught in high schools, explored interior design, worked with paint techniques, and been involved in creative communities like the Tresillian Arts Centre. I’m also a proud member of the West Australian Society of Arts and Trycan.

Over the years, my work has been exhibited at the City of Wanneroo and City of Joondalup Art Awards, and recognised with:

  • Midland Art Junction
  • Woodward Award
  • 1st Prize – Wilgie Red 2021
  • 2nd Prize – Wilgie Red 2021
  • Highly Commended – “High Society Night” 2021

Teaching art is never just about “how to paint.” It’s a journey of curiosity, self-expression, and connection - to yourself, to others, and to the natural world. I see art as a form of wellbeing, a chance to slow down and discover joy in both the process and the outcome. I love watching students’ faces light up when they discover, “I made this!”
